Let the Light (Blue) Shine!

Guess What!? I may have been a year too early, but I hypothesized correctly! Light blue (Serenity) is indeed Pantone’s Color of the Year 2016. And what did they pair it with? A soft pink: Rose Quartz. Light Blue and Light Pink reign supreme! Let there be light [blue] indeed this coming year! Cheers to all things pretty! 🙂

Sky Blue, Light Blue, Robin’s Egg Blue… whatever color you want to call it, there is no denying that this color possesses a whimsical yet elegant beauty, and it has been popping up everywhere!

I’m not one to boast, but I typically have good judgment in trend forecasting, or “Zeitgei-dar” (Zeitgeist + radar), as I like to call it. If my calculations prove true, I believe a light blue might even be Pantone’s next choice for Color of the Year. We’ll see. For now, I’d like to pay a little homage to the color that has been waltzing through my daydreams…

How to Make Your Birkenstock Sandals POP!

I painted my Birkenstocks sky blue for summer. 🙂 Why did I do this?

Because originally they were taupe nubuck which reminded me too much of human skin, and I didn’t really want to wear flesh on flesh. ((They didn’t look awful, but I just wasn’t having it.)) And being the savvy thrift shopper that I am, I literally found these shoes for $2 at a shop in Oregon (thank you Newberg Friends), so if something went wrong while painting them, I had nothing to lose (yet so much to gain!)

How to Make Your Shoes Pop! Tutorial:

All you need is these 3 essentials:

• 1 giant blob of happy colored paint
• 1 pair of boring old shoes (find them at a THRIFT store (Helloooo Salvation Army, Goodwill, or your local thrift)!
• 1 ordinary paint brush

Now sing along with me while I color my world with the chaos of trouble ♫♪

One, Two, Paint the shoe.

Three, Four, Paint some more. 

Five, Six, Clean up shit.

Seven, Eight, They look great!
